I launched my Patreon in August 2018, and it was high time for some big dreaming—and some big updating. Over the weekend I made some big changes to some parts of my Patreon.
If you have some thoughts on these changes, please comment or message me!
New goals!
In 2019 your support got us to our first patron goal. It was time to think big and dream big, and here are the new patron goals:
$500 per month
We go audio! I currently publish paperbacks and ebooks. Once my total patron support hits $500 a month, I will start working with best-in-class pros to bring you audiobooks of all Rucksack Universe books and stories. Patrons will always have early access to new audio releases.
$1,500 per month
All the editions. I will start producing book titles in more formats, such as Hardcover, Large-Print Paperback, Large-Print Hardcover, Mass-Market Paperback, and more.
$3,000 per month
More fiction, less anything else. I’ve been a full-time writer since 2011, but most of my income comes from articles, copywriting, and content consulting. At this level of patron support, I can start stepping back from client work and devote more of my working time to fiction, as well as to my patrons and fan community.
$5,000 per month
I don’t even know what to say. Not only are you saying how much you love the Rucksack Universe, you’re saying you want me to write fiction full-time… and do other wonderful things, such as research trips, funding my and my wife’s retirement accounts and my children’s education accounts… and so much more. If we hit this, I’d also look at expanding your benefits in terms of print books and such, and figure out things like book scholarships, library donations… and more.
Trimmed & improved “About” page
The “about“ page is what people see when they aren’t patrons and visit patreon.com/anthonystclair. I’ve significantly trimmed and improved that content, which I hope will make a better case for others to become Wanderer super-fan patrons.
Sales tax settings
As I mentioned recently, on July 1, 2020, Patreon has to begin collecting sales tax.
I’ve updated the sales tax settings under the hood of the rewards, so that only the correct amount is eligible for taxation. For example, on a $100 pledge, typically only the $2.99 value of the monthly short story might be taxed.
If you want to know more, please see this post about sales tax.
What do you think?
These are some big changes, and some big ideas, and I hope you’re as excited as I am. If you have feedback about these updates, please message or comment, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
